Does A Satellite Descrambler Let You Watch Encrypted Channels?

Does A Satellite Descrambler Let You Watch Encrypted Channels?

Ever wonder how satellite clubs make their money? Well, other than that huge check you send them each month in replacement for their programming there are other clever ways satellite clubs keep you from "borrowing" their services. One way they do this is by scrambling their satellite signals so that not everyone with a satellite dish and receiver box can pick up programming.

Does A Satellite Descrambler Let You Watch Encrypted Channels?

Does A Satellite Descrambler Let You Watch Encrypted Channels?

You may remember satellite descramblers from the good old days as huge satellite boxes that sat on your television and were associated to 18 foot satellite dishes, some of which had to be hand cranked. After a while, satellite clubs began to observation that more and more citizen were purchasing satellite receivers. As excellent and pay-per-view channels began to spring up satellite clubs saw the writing on the wall.

First, the satellite clubs expensed you for your programming, and then they scrambled some of the programs so you had to buy other piece of equipment, or a chip to add to your receiver, to be able to Watch the programming you had already paid for.

Generally, satellite programming was divided into two isolate categories - Free to Air and Premium. You did not need a descrambler to Watch this so-called Free to Air stations, but excellent or pay-per-view channels were often scrambled until you purchased the tool to descramble the programs you wanted to Watch.

Currently, your satellite receiver basically works as a satellite descrambler. All of the signals that come in through your satellite are digitally scrambled until they reach your satellite box. The box descrambles this information and puts it into a form where the satellite programs can be viewed on your television.

While satellite descramblers once were used as a way for the satellite company to make extra money, it is now a way for satellite clubs to keep from being ripped off. For those of you who have satellite television, you know that you cannot turn back on a satellite box that has not been paid for, is past due, not activated, or was owned by someone else until you verify the receiver box with the satellite company.

This is so you can not use to box to steal services from the satellite company. This also explains why satellite clubs don't mind leaving their satellite dishes in place even after aid has been turned off. Since the signals are scrambled, it would take a technical genius to form out how to unscramble the signals and illegally Watch satellite programming.

However, Free to Air is making a comeback but not the way you would think. Some clubs are producing what is know as pirate satellite boxes that basically take the digital satellite signal and descramble the signal illegally. citizen buy these boxes for some hundred dollars but never pay any money to the satellite company. Satellite piracy is becoming a booming company and satellite clubs are scrambling, for lack of a great word, to find a way to get their signals so that can't be hacked.

DirecTv Swm: Things You Must Know!

DirecTv Swm: Things You Must Know!

If DirecTv satellite dish signal had to be broken into any parts to cater to distinct tuners, it was considerable to use a hardware that can successfully achieve such a split. This hardware is the DirecTv Swm. Swms or Single-wire multi-switches are basically switching devices that can be used to control many DirecTv satellite tuner or receivers simultaneously. Positive switches can deal with more than 100 satellite receivers.

DirecTv Swm: Things You Must Know!

DirecTv Swm: Things You Must Know!

DirecTv Swm: Things You Must Know!

DirecTv Swm: Things You Must Know!

DirecTv Swm: Things You Must Know!

Prior to the coming of DirecTv Swm, lines had to be run to every single location. So a dedicated line had to be sent to Power a home's tuner or receiver. With the use of DirecTv Swm, the extra bulk n dedicated lines could be eliminated because a single line could run into the hardware and can be split to as many new signals as required. This is one of the customary advantages that DirecTv Swm offers because otherwise users would have to make way in their homes for extra lines, which can get involved if not managed properly. an additional one piquant feature that DirecTv Swm offers is that, it combines cable service and off-antenna service into the DirecTv signal. The benefit of this feature for the user is that they can fast switch over in the middle of Cable Programming, DirecTv Satellite Signals and Hd off-air.

Implementation of DirecTv Swm

In order for sound implementation of DirecTv Swm, what is required is a satellite dish that is compatible with Swm. Dishes that are compatible with Swm comprise 5Lnb and 3Lnb. It is also considerable to have a Swm compatible receiver and there are many receivers ready that can be used with Swm such as Hr20-100 straight through Hr20-700, H22-100 straight through H22-700, 22-100 straight through R22-700 and much more. The amount of routers that can be routed to a receiver depend on the Swm configuration. Regularly Swm can receive up to four lines from the satellite dish. In a Swm-8 configuration, you can find six satellite configurations. This configuration also has flex ports that can be used with cable programming.

The distance in the middle of the Swm and the satellite dish can be for up to 40 feet. When receivers are connected to the Swm, the distance in the middle of the receivers should be 300 feet. If the amount of receivers is four, the distance should be a maximum of 250 feet in the middle of receivers. So, what is to be noted here is that as the amount of receivers enhance, the distance becomes shorter.

Door-to-Door Cable Tv Sales Reps - 3 Mistakes to Avoid!

Door-to-Door Cable Tv Sales Reps - 3 Mistakes to Avoid!

I just sat down to dinner with my house when the doorbell rang. I opened the door and greeted the stranger standing on my porch. "Yes?" I asked.

"Hello I'm with the cable firm and we have a great deal for only ninety-five dollars a month you can get 120 Tv channels high-speed Internet and local and long distance telephone service," said the young man at my door in one long run-on sentence. He offered a half smile and added, "How are you today?" Huh? I thought. "No thanks." I said and ended the door.

Like most of you, I have met salesmen at my door many times. Most selling magazines to "earn money for college," but others selling Fuller Brushes (I'm not that old-he was selling brushes to my Mom), one selling an all purpose "miracle cleaner" (the one shiny spot on my door's brass foot stop testifies to the product's effectiveness.), and yet an additional one selling vacuum cleaners (no kidding).

Although the Fuller Brush man disappeared from our porches many years ago, door to door sales citizen are here to stay, and not just for magazines, miracle cleaners, or vacuum cleaners. The cable television manufactures has used direct sales for decades as part of its marketing mix. As homes were built and cable plant extended and apartments wired, door to door sales citizen were sent in to make sales. The reps approached those citizen who had not already ordered by telephone and offered them something special to sign up. A free setup or a movie channel for a month was ordinarily all it took to make a sale (I know because I was a door to door sales rep for Viacom Cable about 20 years ago). The sales reps didn't have to know much to be prosperous so the cable operators didn't spend much money on training, sales were made and every person was happy.

Times have changed. A lot. Now the marketplace is fiercely competitive with satellite clubs and telephone clubs alike battling incumbent cable operators for subscribers. Mailboxes are ordinarily filled with advertisements and, as a result, take rates for direct mail have plummeted. A 2 percent direct mail response rate used to be minimum expectation; now 1.5 percent is thought about exceptional. Cable operators need now more than ever quality sales citizen at the door who can certainly sell, because a good salesman at the door can do things no estimate of advertising or direct mail can ever achieve. A good salesman can compose a rapport, actively locate needs and then guide a someone into making a purchasing decision.

Sales training can be expensive so, unfortunately, habits of the past have carried straight through to the present and few cable operators train their citizen to be successful. Having trainers on staff and paying mileage, meals and accommodations for sales reps to come together adds up to a lot of money, so many operators just keep doing what they've all the time done; what's your hat size, here's a clipboard, now go to it! Selling cable door to door isn't rocket science, but there is a world of contrast in the middle of someone poorly trained and one who has been taught a clear and productive process to follow. Here are three common mistakes that untrained sales reps ordinarily commit at the door that bring the conversation, and the door, to a quick close.

1. Too much information delivered too fast. A run-on burst of un-asked for information is simply annoying and does not give the expectation a reason to want to hear more...Goodbye.

2. Volunteering a price. The price of anyone is a drawback to its purchase, so why on earth offer the expectation a reason to not buy what you have? Again...Goodbye.

3. Being insincere. A stranger on the porch asking, "How are you today?" is meaningless because the expectation instinctively knows the stranger request the interrogate doesn't care. Insincere questions simply waste time and identify the sales rep as a slick salesman who will say anyone to make a sale. So...Goodbye. Times are tough and competition for subscribers is fierce. A direct sales rep who avoids making these mistakes will start more conversations at the door and make more sales. Guaranteed.

A Brief History of Directv

A Brief History of Directv

Perhaps the most favorite satellite supplier in the United States, Directv® has a long and impressive history under its belt. So, just who is Directv? And how did they get to where they are today?

Directv - The Early Years

Satellite as we know it today certainly started back in 1984, when Hughes Electronics gained Fcc approval to build and operate a direct broadcast satellite system, or Dbs. The satellite Directv-1 was launched on December 17, 1993 and in 1994, Hughes Electronics founded Directv and premiered the first North American offering of Dbs service. Often called the "minidish", this new satellite dish was considerably smaller than what consumers were used to - roughly 18 inches in diameter - and much more manageable than those large, cumbersome Tvro satellite dishes from our past.

Along with its sleek and covenant look, the minidish brought consumers a new way of receiving satellite television transmissions. Older Tvro dish systems were analog only and based on open standards equipment. Minidish systems on the other hand, were digital, offering clearer video and Audio, and were operated on a closed law that required extra reception equipment. Tvro systems were also mobile, a needful feature to allow them to pick up transmissions from many satellite systems, while minidish systems are stationary and received all of their programming from one definite satellite. In August of 1994, Directv launched its second satellite, Directv-2 and boasted one million subscribers at the end of the year.

Directv - Full Steam Ahead

In 1995, Directv authorized Toshiba and Uniden to begin manufacturing Dbs systems. Committing to 0 million in advertising, Directv ready for the staggering subscriber growth and launched their third satellite, Directv-3 in July.

In 1997, Directv launched Directv-6 and in 1998, with over 4 million subscribers, Directv Satellite entered into an bargain to purchase its partner, Us Satellite Broadcasting for over .3 billion in stocks and cash. The merger provided Directv customers with passage to Ussb's premier movie broadcasting, addition channel selection from 185 to 210. In July, Directv invested 0 million in Xm satellite Radio.

1999 brought even more growth when Directv acquired Primestar, Inc. And their 2.3 million subscribers. As part of the transaction, Directv inherited Primestar's satellite assets - specifically, 11 transponders and two satellites - giving them high-Powered Dbs frequencies to Supply full coverage of the continental United States. In addition to the Primestar acquisition, Directv launched a new satellite of their own, Directv-1R on October 10th.

By 2001, Directv Satellite had gained over 10 million subscribers and in October, announced it's intention to merge with it's prime competitor, EchoStar Communications, the parent enterprise of Dish Network. In November, Directv joined with Music selection and Wink Communications to announce a new interactive music business aid that would allow consumers to purchase a Cd of the song they were listening to directly straight through their remote control. This 24/7 feature was launched in September of 2002.

The merger with EchoStar's Dish Network fell straight through in 2003 and later that same year, general Motors sold their controlling interest of Hughes Electronics to News Corporation. 2003 also saw the introduction of a new high-definition video recorder from Directv and TiVo as well as a second-generation model straight through a partnership with Philips. This was also the second year in a row that Directv was named #1 in customer aid by Jd Powers & Associates.

On November 11, 2003, Directv enjoyed its 12 millionth customer milestone.

Directv - Today

Today, Directv offers aid to more than 14 million subscribers in the continental Us as well as the one million plus subscribers in Latin America. It remains the top ranking consumer satellite supplier and continues to expand its offerings straight through high-definition and extra interest packages such as Nfl Sunday marker and Total Choice® movable programming.

What does the time to come hold for Directv?

With four new satellites staggering by the end of 2007 and exclusive Dvr sneak previews of high-ranking premium broadcasting, Directv continues to push the envelope and expand the definition of satellite television entertainment. What will be next for Directv?

If history offers any clue, it's sure to be big!

choosing A Satellite Tv victualer

choosing A Satellite Tv victualer

The satellite tv commerce has made huge gains on the cable tv commerce in the past any years. With the price of cable tv skyrocketing every year, many cable subscribers are development the switch over to satellite tv. Okay so you've decided to switch to satellite tv; but which satellite tv provider do you choose? A satellite tv provider is a business that owns and operates satellites in geostationary orbit nearby the earth. These satellites broadcast the satellite signal down to your satellite dish and from their the signal is transferred to your receiver (black box). The two largest satellite tv providers in the United Sates are DirecTv and Dish Network. The vast majority of satellite tv subscribers in the United States use one or the other so this report will combine on comparing the two satellite giants in an attempt to help you decree which of the two is best for you.

With the roughly exponential growth of the satellite tv industry, both Dish Network and DirecTv are now in a position where they can afford to offer the satellite tool (dish and receivers) free to their subscribers. So for starters both Dish Network and DirecTv offer free satellite equiipment. Basically the only qualifiers are that you be a first time subscriber and that you have a prestige card for monthly billing purposes. So if the tool is free how do the two providers make any money? Well, you do have to pay for the monthly programming of course. The price of your monthly programming bill depends on which programming box you choose.

Dish Network's America Top 60 programmng box starts at .99 per month and local channels are available. Dish Network presently is not development new subscribers commit to a one year contract. You can end your subscription at any time with no financial penalty to pay. DirecTv's entry level programming box is called the Total choice box and comes with local channels and is .99 per month. With the Total choice box you get over 130 channels. DirecTv does need you to sign a one year subscription agreement. If you cancel your assistance before the year is up, then you have to pay a penalty fee to DirecTv.

As both satellite giants use the very lates technology in their satellites and receiving equipment, what differentiates the two is in the programming options that they Supply to their subscribers. I would rate DirecTv somewhat ahead of the Dish Network in their sports packages, as they offer seasonal sports options like the N.F.L. Sunday marker that DirecTv has exclusive possession to. Both providers offer tons of excellent movie packages to pick from including Hbo, Showtime, Starz and Cinemax. All these come with many channels per movie package. As Dish Network has more satellites in orbit than DirecTv does they have the capacity to offer up to 500 viewing channels, whereas with DirecTv, you can 'only' get 250 channels. Also, Dish Network offers alot more foreign programming packages than DirecTv does.

Both Dish Network and DirecTv offer 100% digital photograph and Cd capability sound in all of their programming. So again, they are tied in this foremost quality. This technology allows for a crystal clear perfect photograph that cable tv naturally cannot provide.

Dish Network, a subsidiary of EchoStar Communications, was founded in 1996 by Charles Ergan. While not quite as old as DirecTv, Dish Network was the fastest satellite provider to reach the 100,000 subscriber level doing so in just four short months. Presently, Dish Network has over Nine million satellite tv subscribers in the 50 United States and District of Columbia. Dish Network has many 'firsts' to its credit, including being the first business to offer a satellite tv receiver that had a built in Dvr (digital video recorder).

DirecTv was begun in 1994 and is the largest satellite tv provider in the United States. When it first launched in 1994, Direct Tv was the first satellite Tv business to offer all digital-quality, multi-channel Tv programming through the use of direct broadcast satellite (Dbs) technology. Dbs technology is now the proper for the satellite tv commerce and we have the ingenuity of the DirecTv engineers to thank for it. While DirecTv does not have as large a bandwidth budget as the Dish Network does, to counter this DirecTv has arranged to have to exclusive deals with programming companies to cater to the programming whims of their subscribers.

In the all foremost area of customer care, both DirecTv and Dish Network offer superior customer care and support. Both offer online Faqs sections and help sections to their websites. You can also call both toll free to get help with any problem you may be having. Pay-Per-View movies may be ordered whether by using your remote control or calling the 800 toll free number for whether provider.

Both DirecTv and Dish Network offer free expert premise as part of their free satellite tv promotions. One disagreement is that DirecTv will install your tool for free in up to five rooms, where Dish Network presently only installs for free in up to four rooms of your home.

Rating Dish Network and Directv Point by Point:

Satellite tool - DirecTv - Free; Dish Network - Free Satellite premise - DirecTv - Free (up to 5 tv's) Dish Network - Free (up to 4 tv's) Picture capability - DirecTv - superior Dish Network - Outstanding Pricing - DirecTv Total choice box .99 per month Dish Network America's Top 60 box .99 per month Programming Quantity - DirecTv offers programming packages up to 250 channels Dish Network has the capacity to offer up to 500 channels Programming capability - DirecTv has superior programming box options with a heavy emphasis on seasonal sports packages. Dish Network also has superior programming box options with somewhat less of an emphasis on sports. Customer Care - DirecTv - superior with both online and 800 toll free support. Dish Network - superior with both online and 800 toll free support.
Final Conclusions & Recommendation:

Both Dish Network and DirecTv offer an superior television viewing experience. The photograph reception for both is far classic to that of cable tv. Dish Network's entry level box is cheaper than DirecTv's; but then the Total choice box comes with alot more channels. DirecTv is stronger in the area of sports coverage, while Dish Network places somewhat more of an emphasis on its excellent movie packages and foreign programming options. And both have superior customer care, both having won the prestigious J.D. Power Award in new years for providing the best farranging assistance among satellite and cable subscribers.

Our hint is that both DirecTv and Dish Network offer a classic television viewing perceive than cable tv. Both are alot cheaper than cable, offer classic photograph capability and free tool and instalation. Both also offer classic customer care assistance compared to local cable providers. If you're a big sports fan and just have to have that obvious excellent sports package, then DirecTv is for you; but if you're not a huge sports fan and cost is an issue, then you might want to go with Dish Network and it's entry level America's Top 60 at just .99 a month. Also, remember that DirecTv will need a one year commitment, whereas with the Dish Network there is no compact to sign, meaning you can cancel your assistance at anytime and not have to pay a penalty.

Whichever satellite provider you choose, you can't go wrong. As a subscriber of the Dish Network and a sales person that has any years perceive in the satellite tv commerce (have sold both DirecTv & Dish Network)I highly propose that you drop cable, stop feeding the pig and switch to satellite tv assistance today. The vastly classic photograph capability alone that Dbs satellite technology provides makes it worth the change. It's like heaven Watching tv with no more squiggly lines running over the tv screen!

The Truth About Direct Tv Installations

The Truth About Direct Tv Installations

I have been a part time, Contracted, Satellite Technician with Direct Tv for a limited over a year now.

This post is for anyone who is reasoning about getting Direct Tv with no nonsense, level up facts on what you absolutely need to know.

First, the technical mumbo jumbo - There are 6 active Direct Tv satellites parked in outer space that are always in the same spot in reference to the ground. Every location in the United States pulls off of these satellites. The main satellite (named 101) has six exchange satellites in orbit directly underneath in case the main, active satellite fails. The two beside it are for Hd and additional programming. The other two are for Spanish and international channels. So with basic, accepted assistance you are only pulling off of satellite 101. The dish is small, has only one Lnb (head) and reception is ordinarily very easy to derive because you just need a limited hole in the sky to be able to get a signal. Then there is the Ka/Ku dish (Hd) which is a much bigger dish that has 3 Lnb's and pulls reception off of 3 dissimilar satellites. These are much harder to zone into because you need a much bigger piece of open sky, and you have to be incredibly correct to get great reception off of all 3 Sats. If you are off town by 1 inch on the ground, you are 1000 miles off town in space. Which brings me to these foremost issues...

1. If your house is completely surrounded by huge trees or any other obstruction(s) then there is a large chance you will not get a signal. It amazes me how many people, after being told which direction needs to be clear, will have absolutely no line of sight for reception and yell, cry and complain when I tell them.. Please check your line of site. The operator will tell you exactly which direction to look from your zip code.

2. Installs are free to you With Exceptions. A basic install is putting up the dish, running cable (if needed) to the location that you want your receiver installed, and walking you through the guide when activated. That's it. If you do not have a line of site from any position On your house then you will have to get a pole mount done. A pole mount will cost you on the spot. Want an extra line to a room without a receiver? cash. anyone that is not acquainted with the basic install Will Cost You Cash Money, On The Spot!

3. If a Dvr receiver is a part of your install, whichever room it is placed in will have to have a 2nd cable line installed as well. This is so you can record on one line and Watch something dissimilar on the other line. You Will have a hole Drilled into your floor or wall of that room. Need the cables wall fished instead? 0 Charge. So please be prepared, we are not allowed to Move Tvs or entertainment centers but we will Drill holes into your nice new pergo floors.

4. Be nice to us. I meet so many great citizen with this and then my day is ruined by a faultless Jerk. I bend over backwards to make sure that you have the best ability service. Life is too short for such unhappiness so whether enjoy it or waste it.

That's technically it... Direct Tv is loved and hated by many. Personally, the ability is better but reception does tend to go out in stormy weather, and the price is unbeatable.
